eGirl Power hosted the AAPI Leadership Conference on December 19, 2021 to unite efforts with the broader community to #StopAsianHate and to honor Carl Chan, President of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce with the "Social Impact" PIFA Award (Pay It Forward Ambassador Award) for his commendable efforts to #StopAsianHate.
In addition to featuring Carl Chan as our distinguished honoree, the AAPI Leadership Conference will feature several Youth-Led Workshops by eGirl Power Junior Council member on the key AAPI-related topics to learn and know about: What is AAPI, Microaggressions, and the story of Mamie Tape.
Carl Chan, President of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce (OCCC) has been a longstanding leader in his AAPI community. Chan, who was attacked in a hate crime on a public sidewalk in daylight, has spreadheaded efforts to take action to combat Anti-Asian hate crimes that have surged since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
